Several individuals arrested in connection with a violent protest at the University of Liberia’s (UL) main campus on April 28, 2025, have been formally charged and sent to court for prosecution.
The demonstration, which turned chaotic, disrupted public order by blocking the main street along the Capital By-Pass and resulted in property damage, including a marked police vehicle bearing license plate #RL-307.
According to the Liberia National Police (LNP), officers who arrived at the scene to restore calm were met with hostility as protesters hurled stones and glass bottles at them, further escalating the situation.
The individuals arrested during the incident have been identified as Daniel S. Deema, Kalifa Kanneh, Archi Sougha, Frank D. Jackson, Christopher Dugbe, Isaac William, and Musa A. Kermokai.
Following police investigations, the suspects have been charged with multiple offenses under the Revised Penal Law of the Republic of Liberia, including:Criminal Conspiracy, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Rioting, Criminal Mischief, Failure to Disperse, Disorderly Conduct, Obstructing Highway and Other Public Passages.
These charges are in violation of Chapter 10, Section 10.4; Chapter 14, Subchapter B, Section 14.23; Chapter 15, Subchapter A, Section 15.5; and Chapter 17, Sections 17.1, 17.3, and 17.7 of the Revised Penal Law.
The LNP confirmed that the charged individuals have been forwarded to court for prosecution. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the violent protest.
In a statement issued by LNP Spokesperson Cecelia G. Clarke, the police emphasized their commitment to maintaining peace and order and urged the public to resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
“The Liberia National Police remains dedicated to maintaining peace and order. We encourage citizens to respect the rule of law and channel their concerns through constructive dialogue,” the statement concluded.
