Prayer Fellowship Denounces Breakaway’s Autonomy Request -Reaffirms Archbishop Olasemojo Leadership
The Church of the Lord Prayer Fellowship, Liberia Province, has strongly rejected a recent letter addressed to its global Primate, Rev. Rufus O. Ositelu, by a group identifying themselves as “elders” or “aggrieved elders” of the Church.
The Church’s leadership described the letter which requested autonomy for the Liberia branch as a blatant act of impersonation and rebellion.
In a press statement issued Wednesday, the Church clarified that only the officially recognized Provincial Head, appointed by the Primate, has the constitutional authority to chair or convene the Annual General Conference (AGC) or any Provincial Executive Council (PEC) meetings.
The Church’s constitution, particularly Article 9 Section 3B, stipulates that such meetings must be held at the Provincial Headquarters on 52 Center Street, Monrovia, and led by the duly appointed leader.
The statement specifically called out one Rev. A. Tamba Gborie, who reportedly chaired the March 15 conference in Brewerville that resulted in the controversial resolution seeking autonomy.
The Church described Gborie’s involvement as illegitimate, asserting that he had broken away from the Church since 2018 to start his own congregation, where he assumed the titles of Bishop and Apostle.
“We are taken aback by this kind of communication which clearly amounts to impersonation,” the statement read.
“We wonder whether the Cllr. doesn’t see it this way that he is masquerading.”
Church authorities also referenced several constitutional provisions to underscore their position.
Article 6 Section 24, for example, states that the Primate holds the authority to appoint ministers to serve in any province worldwide, and such appointments cannot be rejected by any local church or region.
Article 23 Section 17C outlines that acts of insurrection and succession campaigns are grounds for dismissal and excommunication.
The Church also emphasized that the group’s actions including the holding of an unauthorized conference and making public pronouncements amount to rebellion and are contrary to the doctrines and structure of the global organization.
In furtherance, the church statement clarified that it had already held its legitimate Annual General Conference from February 17 to 23, 2025, under the chairmanship of His Grace Archbishop Victor Moses Olasemojo at its headquarters in Monrovia.
For their reported action which the leadership of the Church of the Lord prayer Fellowship deems rebellious and immoral to the faith, officials of the body pass a firm declaration that Elder Gborie-l and others associated with the unauthorized activities are considered breakaway members.
However, in a tone of reconciliation, the Church said it remains open to receiving returning members, provided they renounce self-styled titles and undergo disciplinary measures.
“The Church of the Lord worldwide has a policy: any minister or member(s) who leave the Church are considered breakaway.
But like the prodigal son, if you decide to return, our arms are open to receive you,” the Church’s statement added.
Meanwhile, the Church of the Lord Prayer Fellowship, Liberia Province leadership and a position statement committee on the matter have reechoed the chairmanship of Archbishop Victor Moses Olasemojo who presides over the national headquarters in Monrovia remains the current legitimate leadership of the gospel body in Liberia.
They called on members to discontinue affiliation with bodies that are impersonating by returning to the congregation for the sole purpose of serving God in a spirit of oneness and love which is taught by the Bible.
