The Senior Presidential Advisor, MacDella Cooper, has called on Liberians to unite behind the country’s historic campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, declaring it a national effort beyond politics or party lines.
Speaking Thursday at the Ministry of Information regular press briefing, Cooper emphasized that Liberia is in the final stretch of its diplomatic push, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to secure at least 125 votes in the upcoming June 2nd UN General Assembly election.
“This is not a party thing. This is not an administration thing. This is a Liberia thing. When Liberia wins, we all win,” she stressed.
According her, the campaign represents a renewed bid to serve with greater influence on issues of global peace, security, and development.
Cooper revealed that she has been tasked with helping raise US$1m to support diplomatic engagements, campaign logistics, and a finale event in New York on May 28, 2025, just days ahead of the crucial vote.
“Minister Nyanti and her team have been traveling the world, meeting heads of state, soliciting votes. But at home, it’s our duty to support those efforts with the resources they need,” she said.
According to her, a national fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at the Executive Pavilion in Monrovia. President Joseph Boakai is expected to attend as host of the evening.
She disclosed that tickets are being sold at $500, but special rates are available for students and young professionals.
Cooper noted that student leaders from institutions such as the University of Liberia reached out to request affordable access, which has now been arranged with discounted tickets—available with valid student ID.
She added that a public donation table will be set up at the historic Invincible Park for community members, market women, and motorcycle taxi riders who wish to make small but meaningful contributions.“Whether you can afford L$500 or L$50, every contribution counts.”
Cooper assured that transparency and accountability are at the center of the fundraising effort. “Every dollar will be accounted for. Contributors will receive receipts, and full financial records will be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to the President.”
She thanked those who have already donated, including members of the cabinet, business leaders, SOEs, and Liberians both at home and in the diaspora.
“This is our one country. This is our shared future. And standing on that global stage at the United Nations will be a moment of pride for all of us. Let us rise together,” she said.
