The Grand Kru County Administration has announced series of ongoing infrastructure and social development projects, backed by funding from the government through the County Development Fund (CDF).
Grand Kru County Development Officer, Joe Sekpeh, in a phone interview on April 30, 2025, disclosed that the projects span across multiple sectors and are part of the government’s efforts to improve service delivery and infrastructure in the southeastern county.
According to Mr. Sekpeh, key initiatives under the current fiscal year include the renovation of the Superintendent Compound, the County Administrative Building, and Barclayville City Hall.
Additional projects involve the completion of the Parluken Administrative Building, the Norkia Clinic in Jorwah, and the Youth Center in Barclayville.
“We are prioritizing water and road infrastructure this year,” Sekpeh said, referencing the construction of eight new hand pumps and the rehabilitation of 16 others across all eight districts.
“Road rehabilitation is also a major component of our agenda,” he added, noting that these developments are covered under the 2024 national fiscal budget.
Mr. Sekpeh revealed that the county is operating with a total budget of approximately US$186,000 from the central government, supplemented by US$40,000 and LD 21 million carried forward from the previous administration.
Applauding President Joseph Boakai for his administration’s commitment to regional development, Sekpeh said Grand Kru is benefiting from renewed national focus.
He disclosed that the County Administration has already submitted bids for additional road rehabilitation projects, including key corridors from Buah to Greenville in Sinoe County and from Buah to Kaweaken in River Gee County.
These routes are crucial for improving farm-to-market access in the region.
The Ghanaian community in Grand Kru County donated one drum of fuel and ten 25-kilogram bags of rice to support ongoing street pavement work in Barclayville.
Prominent citizens have also begun contributing moral and financial support to assist the county’s development drive.
Mr. Sekpeh extended commendation to the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus for its continued support, citing the group’s financial backing of the Barclayville road project as an example of effective collaboration.
“The government under President Boakai is committed to improving the lives of every Liberian,” Sekpeh emphasized. “It’s important for our citizens to actively engage and partner with local authorities and development organizations to move our county forward.”
As Grand Kru positions itself for growth, the county administration said it remains focused on transparency, accountability, and grassroots participation in its development efforts he added.
