The European Union (EU) reaffirmed its commitment to regional security and international cooperation by donating vital equipment to enhance the functionality of the Data Collection and Registration Center (DACORE), a pivotal component of the West African Police Information System (WAPIS).
The donation ceremony marked another significant step in bolstering security infrastructure across West Africa.
Representing the EU, Ms. Marie PauleNeuville emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in confronting the persistent threats facing the region.
“Together,” Ms. Neuville stated, “we continue to build a future where collaboration and shared responsibility reinforce peace and protection for all.”
“DACORE is at the heart of our collective efforts to ensure safety across borders,” she said. “By supporting this initiative, we aim to empower local authorities with the tools they need to respond effectively to transnational crime and security challenges.”
DACORE plays a critical role in gathering and analyzing data to monitor movements and detect potential criminal activity, thereby serving as a linchpin in efforts to combat terrorism, trafficking, and organized crime.
The newly donated equipment is expected to significantly enhance the center’s ability to collect, store, and share vital information in real time with member states of WAPIS.
Inspector General Gregory Coleman of the Liberia National Police, who accepted the donation on behalf of the Joint Security, lauded the EU’s continued support.
“This generous contribution reflects a commitment to not just local but also global safety,” he stated. “We accept it with deep appreciation and recognize it as a sign of growing trust and collaboration.”
Minister of Justice Oswald Tweh echoed these sentiments, describing the EU’s support as timely and impactful.
“This donation reinforces our capacity to fight serious crimes and maintain the integrity of our borders,” he said. “The accurate collection of personal data is essential in tracking criminal elements and upholding justice.”
The EU’s partnership with Liberia is part of a broader strategy to enhance regional cooperation and intelligence-sharing mechanisms throughout West Africa.
With security threats increasingly transcending borders, initiatives like WAPIS—and the strengthening of institutions like DACORE—are vital to maintaining peace and stability.
As the ceremony concluded, officials from both the EU and Liberia reaffirmed their shared vision for a safer, more secure West Africa.
