The Ministry of Education has reportedly abandoned several public schools operating in lower Nimba.
Speaking in Gblor Kweepea Town, Samuel Duo said the lack of teachers couple with the lack of chairs have created difficult seating and learning capacities for the students and the school administrations.
According to elder Duo, Kweepea Public School has been operating with one government teacher for four years without benches and other teaching materials.
Speaking on behalf of the town, the Zone Chief Dokro Gaye, said besides the Kweepea Public School, the Gbotuo Public School also lacks government’s assigned teachers and the school has been closed down.
Since the beginning of 2024-2025, the alleged lack of school supervision linking the 13 Districts Education Officers and alleged released of senior high school principals by CEO Francis Legay is reportedly on the increase among public schools in Nimba.
The Nimba schools system boasts that it has 435 public schools with over hundred private and communities schools; 13 education districts, 13 Districts Education Officers supervised by the County Education Officer Francis Legay .
Speaking in Doeyelay Town, the public school’s acting principal, Nyuanpue Geayon, revealed that the school had been operating without principal for four years.
“The principal, Samuel Samjon, had been in sick bush four years now,” the acting principal, Geayon revealed.
The Fahnlay Public School’s Principal, Paul Leabah said the lack of a teaching curriculum, benches and food are among contributing factors that led to the poor enrollment of the school.
When DEO Victor Player was contacted via mobile phone, he said he controlled about 46 public schools in the district noting “Every information pertaining to these public schools is sent to Ministry of Education therefore, please contact the MOE Communication Director Martin Bleetan for detailed information.”
